I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the practice of evidence-based psychotherapy for adults (18+) who are experiencing problems with mood, anxiety, attention, organization/planning, self-esteem, adjustment, transition, coping/functioning, loss, grief, and life stress. I have expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I draw largely from these treatment approaches in my practice.

Pain in life is unavoidable. Sometimes, however, we may unintentionally suffer more than we need, and this suffering is what brings many people to seek treatment. My broad goals are to help clients accept and manage the symptoms or challenges they are currently facing, and at the same time, to support them in building the life that they want for themselves. In treatment, we will explore what you hope to gain by attending therapy. We will examine thoughts, behaviors and emotions that may be interfering in your ability to cope effectively with your current circumstances and in having the life you want. We will look to your personal history to understand the roots and development of your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Together we will identify and capitalize on areas of strength, cultivate new ways of coping, and bolster efforts to live more in accordance with your values. This journey will take place in a collaborative, caring, empathic, and safe environment.

Along with my colleague, Dr. Heather Kapson, I am also the co-creator of Within Reach Workshops (withinreachworkshops.com). Within Reach Workshops are a new initiative designed to create increased access to evidence-based treatment. Within Reach Workshops are rooted in ACT and provide a framework and therapeutic tools for creating a different relationship with your thoughts and feelings so that you can make meaningful changes in your life.

Prior to joining Needham Psychotherapy Associates, I was a staff psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. I was a member of the Department’s urgent care, primary care, and DBT consultation teams, and I engaged in diagnostic assessment and treatment planning, group therapy, individual therapy, and the training and supervision of psychiatry residents and psychology interns.

I received my doctorate from the University of Miami. My clinical training emphasized CBT, and I received training in a wide variety of clinical settings, including the University’s psychological services center, a state psychiatric hospital, and a local community mental health center. In my research, I have studied many facets of bipolar disorder. I completed my clinical internship in the Cognitive Behavioral Scientist Track at MGH and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Bipolar Clinic and Research Program, researching adaptations of MBCT and DBT treatments for patients with bipolar disorder.
