I joined Needham Psychotherapy Associates LLC in 1993, and am proud to be part of such a wonderful group of experienced, committed, and compassionate clinicians. As a Psychiatrist, I am the physician member of the mental health team. The services I provide include psychotherapy, psycho-pharmacology, and consultation to Primary Care physicians regarding diagnosis and treatment of their patients with mental health disorders. As a General Adult Psychiatrist I treat patients age 21 and over, for a wide range of mental health issues which may be causing them distress and dysfunction, most especially anxiety and mood (depression) disorders.

The heart of my practice is and always has been the therapeutic connection I strive to make with each patient. I believe no treatment succeeds without a positive mutual regard. In my psychopharmacology work I emphasize education about the medication options available, and the pros and cons of the different choices, with a goal of closely engaging my patients in the decision making process. I also strongly believe that the best mental health treatment includes psychotherapy, “talking therapy”. During my psychiatry training the emphasis was on becoming an excellent psychotherapist and this is the work I continue to most enjoy. The vast majority of my patients not only receive medication from me, but also are engaged in therapy, either with me or with one of my NPA colleagues. With my own therapy patients I like to combine a number of strategies in the therapy work, including psychodynamic, interpersonal, and supportive.

My training as a Psychiatrist included four years of medical school at Northwestern University Medical School (Chicago), followed by a medical/surgical Internship at Beth Israel Hospital (Boston), and then three years of Psychiatry Residency at The Cambridge Hospital, Harvard Medical School. I also completed a Geriatric Mental Health Fellowship at HMS. After working for twelve years at The Cambridge Hospital in Residency Training, Geriatric Mental Health, and the Psychiatric Emergency Service, I was on the staff at Brookline Mental Health Center for three years before coming full time to NPA.
