My clinical practice focuses on people who are in transition and are looking for a way to move forward in their lives. Often they are experiencing loss of some kind which could be divorce or end of a relationship, chronic illness either for themselves or for a family member, pregnancy loss and/ or death of a loved one. In one way or another they are looking to tolerate the pain of the loss and simultaneously rebuild their life. Some men and women seek treatment from me because they are suffering from persistent depression and anxiety and are looking for a way out of old behaviors. I have worked for many years with substance abusers and their families , particularly women substance abusers, all of whom are looking for a new way of life. Other clients seek help because they are adjusting to a new life stage- either the young adult establishing his/ her personal and vocational life, couples adjusting to the demand of parenthood, middle aged individuals and couples dealing with adult children and impending retirement and seniors dealing with making the most out of the later stage of life. In all cases my clients are looking to make some changes in their lives - and that is what they find difficult. My job as therapist is to help my clients understand what changes they do want to make and to give them the tools to do so.

I work with individuals and couples from a wide variety of backgrounds Including gay and lesbian men and women.

My approach with clients is interactive and eclectic. In treatment I will explore underlying conflicts with both individuals and couples, but also use a variety of strategies including relaxation training, mindfulness meditation, visual imagery and cognitive behavioral techniques.

My background includes over 20 years as a clinical social worker. I worked at McLean Hospital's substance abuse treatment center with families, individuals and groups. Later I worked in employee assistance program both as a consultant /program manager and as the Director of Training and Development. My specialty was in communication skills training, stress management and in helping individuals, staff groups and organizations cope with change. Since establishing my private practice I have continued to focus on helping patients enhance their communication and stress management skills and to make changes through individual and couple therapy.
