My social work practice offers comprehensive services including the evaluation and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. Modalities include individual counseling, play therapy for children, individual, couple and family therapy. I offer short and long-term therapy to a population from age four years to adulthood. Having worked for fifteen years for a traditional child guidance clinic in Boston I have had experience with the full range of issues impacting families.

In a world filled with specialties and subspecialties a person’s healthcare often seems fragmented. Thus, I have tried to maintain a "family practice model", providing care for various members of families, either individually or in combinations.

While well grounded in a traditional psychodynamic approach, which examines the influence of historical experiences on current behavior, I have integrated other models into my practice. Women’s health issues, self-psychology, the "relational model" (which focuses on the priority of relationships in our sense of well-being) are among a few. I take great pleasure in continuing to learn and keeping up with current knowledge.

Psychological health is seen as only one aspect of the wellness of the individual. Thus the nurturance of physical and spiritual development is encouraged. Involvement in supplemental self-help groups is supported. I see my role with people as being a catalyst for growth and development.

One of the advantages of being a member of a multidisciplinary practice is that referral can readily be made for psychological testing or medication consultation when necessary. The sharing of talents with the other professionals in the practice enhances professional development.

As people travel through the various life stages there are adjustments that must be made in order to cope with those natural events. Many of these changes involve separation: the weaning of a child from bottle or breast, the separation of mother and child on the first day of school, the movement from puberty to adolescence, sending a teenager to college, a recent illness or the loss of a family member. While most people deal with these events with some difficulty, time passes and people heal. Some, however, do not readily heal and may have intense or prolonged reactions. In these cases professional intervention can be helpful. Sometimes a recent event may bring a more intense reaction because it is a repetition of past but unresolved events. For example, the death of a pet may recall the death of a family member.

Current special areas of interest in my practice include: play therapy, early adolescent issues, self-esteem and body image issues, menopause, eating disorders, shopping and smoking addictions, and ADD in children and adults. I also currently participating in a child assault prevention program in the public schools.

Prior to establishing my private practice I worked in a child guidance clinic and consulted to various community health centers. As a staff member of that clinic I supervised the clinical training of Boston University and Simmons College social workers. In addition to direct clinical work, I provide LICSW supervision on a private basis to clinical social workers.
