| Therapists:
I delight in the opportunity to introduce myself, especially as part of Needham Psychotherapy Associates. My practice attends to concerns about:
CONSULTATION; SUPERVISION; PSYCHOTHERAPY; EDUCATION Whether you’re a health care professional looking for clinical supervision, an expert consultant, or an individual, couple or family seeking assistance for issues around aging, I bring sensitivity, knowledge and commitment to my practice. My services bring together the areas of education, psychotherapy, consultation and supervision in which I have been trained. As a clinical geropsychologist, I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of emotional problems and life-stage challenges at middle age to later life. Sometimes a little help at a crucial moment can make a world of difference. I have worked in the universe of aging for more than thirty-five years. My formal training included receiving a National Institute of Mental Health post-doctoral Fellowship in both clinical studies and research. My special research interests are difficult personalities in older age and the long-term marriage. I enjoy working with the long-married couple. It is never too late to come together to help make things better. Like many happily busy people, I divide my work between my clinical practice, consultation, supervision, teaching and professional leadership activities. I am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I am on the faculty of the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) and Director of the MSPP Center for Mental Health and Aging. I am also part of the national traveling faculty for the American Society on Aging. I began my professional life as a teacher and I continue to love teaching. In addition to professional education, I am often invited to present at local and national workshops for the general public. I have written extensively for newspapers and journals, and have a regular column (“Speaking of Aging”) in the Journal of Retirement Planning and serve on the editorial board of Generations. Personally and professionally, I am committed to advancing awareness of and access to good mental health services to help us meet the challenges of aging. I believe very much that any age can be a good age. I received my Bachelor of Science and Masters in Education degrees
from Boston University and my Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from
the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. I also completed
a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) post-doctoral fellowship
in geropsychology. I am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology
in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School. |
