I am a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  I treat children with emotional, behavioral and developmental concerns.  My areas of expertise and advanced training are with children, adolescents, adults and families facing grief and loss or coping with medical trauma.  I see children from toddlerhood through adolescence; provide parent guidance; and offer consultation and treatment to couples, families and adults.  I also provide peer consultation as a service to mental health professionals.

Before pursuing my doctorate, I was a pediatric nurse practitioner at Boston Children’s Hospital and an instructor in the graduate nursing program at Boston College.  I worked as a staff psychologist in the department of psychiatry at Boston Children’s Hospital for 15 years.  In addition, I have consulted to school systems and taught and supervised medical students, fellows, and psychology and social work trainees. I have presented lectures and seminars nationally and published extensively in professional journals and textbooks in my areas of special interest.

Therapy provides a safe place for an individual to explore feelings, issues, problems and concerns and is a place to develop healthy, productive coping skills.  In treatment, I use a variety of therapeutic modalities – psychodynamic, psychoeducational, developmental, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal and play – depending upon the abilities and needs of the person who comes to see me.  The combination of my nursing and mental health background provides me with a strong understanding of an individual’s biological, physiological and psychological needs.   In child treatment, I believe therapy is most effective with the support and encouragement of and collaboration with the child’s parents.  In all treatment, I strive to help an individual develop and grow into his or her optimal mental health and well-being.

I received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Boston University and a Ph.D. from Tufts University.  I completed an APA approved predoctoral internship in psychology at Boston Children’s Hospital in 1986.  I retain a medical staff appointment at Children’s and am an assistant clinical professor of psychology in the department of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

I have worked in Needham in private practice since 1995 and was fortunate to join my colleagues at NPA in 2006.
